The next highlight is the Ziz Valley, a breathtaking oasis of green palms contrasting sharply with the surrounding desert. Take a moment to absorb the lush scenery dotted with date palms and Berber villages before heading to Erfoud, famous for its fossil-rich stones and as a hub for exploring the Sahara. Here, the red dunes of Merzouga Desert start to appear on the horizon. Upon arrival, mount a camel for an unforgettable ride over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, a perfect vantage point to watch the sun set over the sands. Spend the night in a desert camp, enjoying traditional Berber hospitality and a starlit night.
Day 2: Explore Merzouga Desert → Tea with Nomads → M’Ifis Kohl Mines → Gnaoua Music
Rise early to witness a magnificent sunrise over the sand dunes of Merzouga Desert. Following breakfast, delve into the local culture with a day dedicated to exploring the surrounding desert region. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the soulful rhythms of Gnaoua music in the nearby village of Khamlia. Return to your camp in Merzouga for another night under the stars, enriched by the day’s encounters and cultural insights.
Day 3: Merzouga → Rissani → Erfoud → Todra Gorges → Boumalne Dades
Leave the golden dunes of Merzouga behind and head to Rissani, a historic trading town with a bustling souk. Explore the vibrant market, especially the livestock section where camels, sheep, and goats are traded, reflecting the town’s ancient mercantile traditions.
Continue on to Erfoud, where fossil workshops abound, showcasing Morocco’s ancient geological history. From Erfoud, drive toward the dramatic Todra Gorges, where towering limestone cliffs create a breathtaking canyon. Day 4: Boumalne Dades → Rose Valley → Skoura Oasis → Ouarzazate → Ait Benhaddou
Depart Boumalne Dades and follow the road that winds through the Dades Valley, surrounded by ochre cliffs and unique rock formations. Arrive at Rose Valley, where fragrant damask roses bloom in spring, filling the air with their delicate scent. Day 5: Ait Benhaddou → Taznakht → Taliouine → Agadir
Depart Ait Benhaddou and journey through the High Atlas Mountains toward Taznakht, a village renowned for its vibrant Berber carpets. Stop to observe the skilled weavers creating intricate designs that embody the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Continue to Taliouine, Morocco’s saffron capital. Visit a saffron cooperative where you can learn about the cultivation of this precious spice, famed for its aromatic qualities and golden hue. After sampling local saffron products, continue toward the Atlantic coast, reaching the bustling city of Agadir. Day 7: Essaouira at Leisure → Marrakech
Spend a leisurely morning in Essaouira, where you can continue exploring at your own pace. Wander through the colorful souks, visit art galleries, or relax at a beachside café. The medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a haven for shopping and discovering Moroccan arts and crafts, from argan oil products to jewelry and textiles.
In the afternoon, journey to the vibrant city of Marrakech, where the tour concludes. The Red City’s famous landmarks await, from the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa Square to the intricate Bahia Palace and enchanting Majorelle Garden.
