4-Day Marrakech Desert Adventure: Mountains, Kasbahs & Sahara
Tour Overview
Conducting initial research on flights from your nearest airport can help you find the most cost-effective options for arriving in and departing from Morocco. Our tours are highly flexible and can start from any city that fits your schedule.
Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Valley via the Atlas Mountains
Marrakech → Atlas Mountains → Ait Benhaddou → Ouarzazate → Skoura Oasis → Roses Valley → Dades Valley
After meeting you in Marrakech, we’ll depart for the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in North Africa. This scenic route offers breathtaking views and brings us into the heart of the Glaoua tribe territory, dotted with ancient kasbahs and fortified granaries.
Our journey continues to Ouarzazate, often dubbed the "Hollywood of Morocco" due to its popularity as a film location. After a stop for lunch, we’ll visit the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its striking mud-brick architecture featured in films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia.
In the afternoon, we will travel through lush oases and arrive in the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night.
Day 2: Dades Valley to the Sahara Desert (Erg Chebbi)
Dades Valley → Todra Canyon → Rissani → Merzouga → Camel Trekking into Erg Chebbi Dunes
After breakfast, we will continue to Todra Gorge, one of Morocco's most stunning natural landmarks. We’ll take time to explore the towering cliffs before we continue towards Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Upon arrival, we will leave unnecessary luggage behind at a nearby hotel and mount our camels for an unforgettable trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, you will experience the silence and beauty of the desert, with plenty of free time to explore the sand dunes.
As the sun sets, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and a live music show around the campfire in the heart of the desert. Afterward, take in the tranquil desert night sky, where a million stars fill the darkness above.
Day 3: Desert to Ouarzazate – The Cinema City
Merzouga → Rissani → N'Kob → Tazarine → Draa Valley → Agdz → Ouarzazate
Wake early to witness the incredible Sahara sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast and a refreshing shower, we begin our return journey towards Ouarzazate. Along the way, we’ll visit the bustling market in Rissani, a place full of authentic Moroccan culture, and stop at several traditional villages in the Draa Valley, home to countless palm groves and kasbahs.
We’ll continue through the Draa Valley and arrive in Ouarzazate, known for its film studios and rich history. After checking in, enjoy an afternoon by the pool before spending the evening at leisure.
Day 4: Ouarzazate to Marrakech – Atlas Mountains & Telouet Kasbah
Ouarzazate → Atlas Mountains → Telouet Kasbah → Marrakech
After breakfast, we visit Ouarzazate's Cinematic Museum before heading toward the Ounila Valley, following the ancient caravan route that once connected the Sahara to Marrakech. Along the way, we will visit an abandoned salt mine, where you can explore the dimly lit chambers and see salt crystals that resemble coral formations.
Next, we’ll visit Telouet Kasbah, a historic seat of power for the El Glaoui family, with its intricate architecture and stunning views. From here, we travel through the scenic valleys and mountain roads of the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, before descending into the plains surrounding Marrakech.
We’ll arrive in Marrakech by early evening, and your guide will escort you to your riad to conclude your 4-day desert adventure.
