Between Tiznit and Sidi Ifni, the Atlantic coast of Morocco changes character. Cliffs replace resorts, and the towns are small, slow and friendly.
Mirleft
Mirleft is a village above a string of coves and surf beaches. It has a few guesthouses, small cafés and a relaxed surf and fishing culture. There is not much to “do”, which is exactly why many people love it.
Legzira
Legzira beach is famous for its red sandstone arches. One of the two arches collapsed in 2016; the remaining one is still spectacular, especially at sunset and at low tide, when you can walk under it.
Sidi Ifni
Sidi Ifni was a Spanish enclave until 1969, and its centre still has blue and white Art Deco buildings, an old square, a lighthouse and a lively fishing port. Its weekly souk is held on Sunday.
Two views
For: this is the Morocco of twenty years ago: no big hotels, empty beaches, fresh fish, and locals who still have time to talk.
Against: if you want nightlife, shopping or famous monuments, you will find the coast too quiet, the ocean too cold for long swims, and the fog that often rolls in on summer mornings disappointing.
