Every Saturday morning, herders and traders gather at the camel market of Guelmim, the old ‘gateway to the Sahara’. We arrive early for the busiest hour, then drive to the oasis of Tighmert, with its palm gardens, earthen ksour and small family museums of nomad life, before returning along the coast via Tiznit.
About 200 km each way, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours each way. The camel market runs on Saturday; on other days we can visit Guelmim’s oases and the coast instead. Market days are subject to change, especially around holidays and Ramadan; we confirm the day with you before the trip.
Pickup from your hotel in Agadir (or Mirleft) · Drop-off back at your hotel
Around 6:30 AM (the market is busiest early)
An early start and a long day. The camel market is a working livestock market: lively, dusty and authentic. Ask before photographing people.
We pick you up at your hotel in Agadir early, at 6:30, because the camel market is busiest in the first hours of Saturday morning. We drive south through the Souss and Tiznit as the sun comes up.
Guelmim was for centuries the gateway to the Sahara, where caravans from the south traded their goods. Every Saturday morning herders and traders still gather at the market with their camels, sheep and goats. You walk among the animals with your driver-guide, watch the bargaining and drink a glass of tea with the traders. It is a working livestock market, dusty and real, so ask before photographing people.
A short drive takes us to the oasis of Tighmert, a long palm grove with gardens watered by old canals, earthen ksour and small family museums that keep the tents, saddles, jewellery and tools of the nomads of the region.
Lunch is in Guelmim (not included), a good place to try camel meat or a simple tagine.
On the way back north we stop in Tiznit for a short walk inside its walls and through the silver souk, known for its Amazigh jewellery.
We arrive back in Agadir around 17:30 and drop you at your hotel.
