The Ourika Valley runs from the edge of Marrakech’s plain up into the High Atlas, following a river lined with walnut trees, terraced fields and Berber villages. With a local guide you walk away from the busy roadside cafés to the quieter villages and side valleys, then share lunch with a family.
On Mondays the day starts at the weekly souk of Tnine Ourika, one of the biggest country markets near Marrakech. Market days are subject to change; we confirm the day with you before the trip.
Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech · Drop-off back in Marrakech
Around 8:30 AM
An easy to moderate walk of 2 to 3 hours. If you want to see the Setti Fatma waterfalls, tell us: the path is rocky and steep in places.
We pick you up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech at 8:30 and drive south-east across the plain towards the High Atlas, which rises suddenly behind the olive groves.
At Tnine Ourika, at the entrance of the valley, we stop on Mondays for the weekly souk, one of the largest in the region: piles of spices, vegetables and fruit, a livestock market, tools, pottery and barbers working in the open air. It is a real village market, not a tourist one.
Further up the valley you meet your local guide and set off on foot for two to three hours along village paths, through terraced fields, walnut trees and small hamlets above the river. Your guide explains how families live and farm in the valley, and you stop for photos and a rest whenever you like.
Lunch is at the home of a local family: a tagine cooked on the fire, fresh bread and mint tea, sitting with the family in their house.
We drive back to Marrakech in the afternoon and drop you at your riad or hotel around 17:00.
